Castel Sant’Angelo
Begun by emperor Hadrian as his own mausoleum, then later converted into a formidable fortress, a prison, and a papal residence, it now plays host to various exhibitions. It is connected to the Vatican by the Passetto, a passageway used as a secret escape for the popes.
