French photographer Hervé Gloaguen, a member of the renowned Viva Agency, stood out in the mid-1970s as one of the few in France to embrace color photography, breaking from the black-and-white humanist tradition focused on social life. During a journey through Rome, he captured young people gathering around fountains, café terraces, and restaurants, revealing intimate corners of the Eternal City. He quickly turned his lens toward the mysteries of nightlife, drawn by its atmosphere and glowing lights. These vibrant images—taken between 1975 and 1995—form the heart of À Rome la nuit, an exhibition at the Museum of Rome in Trastevere, on view through September 6.
