The Pharaohs’ treasures
A major exhibition unveils the wonders of Ancient Egypt
This fall, the Scuderie del Quirinale will be hosting a major exhibition dedicated to the ancient and mysterious world of Egyptian civilization. The Treasures of the Pharaohs, on until next May, is a rare chance to admire extraordinary masterpieces and archaeological wonders, some of which are being shown in Italy for the very first time. The collection is organized into six thematic sections, offering visitors a comprehensive journey through thousands of years of Egyptian history. It explores the pharaohs’ divine authority, the structure of society, spiritual beliefs, funerary rituals, and the most recent archaeological findings. Over 130 exceptional works have been lent by Egypt’s leading museums, complemented by a valuable piece from the Museo Egizio in Turin. Highlights of the show retrace the key chapters of Egyptian civilization, from its origins to the golden age of the New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate Period. Among the star pieces are the monumental sculpture of the Triad of Menkaure, the golden funerary mask of Pharaoh Psusennes I, statues of Sennefer, Ramses VI, and Thutmose III, the golden sarcophagus of Queen Ahhotep, her dazzling Golden Flies Necklace, the golden funerary mask of Amenemope, alongside royal jewels, everyday objects, and decorated sarcophagi.
A special section is devoted to the Golden City, a vast settlement dating back to the reign of Amenhotep III and Akhenaten. Unearthed during a groundbreaking excavation, the artifacts found shed fresh light on Egyptian society, daily life, and the crafts of court artisans—offering visitors an unprecedented glimpse into the world beyond the temples and tombs.
