Rome’s Marathon

March 22

It’s marathon time in Rome! On March 22 at 8:30am, the 31st Rome Marathon sets off from the Colosseum, sending runners past legendary sights including the Baths of Caracalla, Circus Maximus, St. Peter’s Basilica, Castel Sant’Angelo, the Tiber, Stadio Olimpico, and Piazza del Popolo, before the grand finish on Via dei Fori Imperiali. The route has remained unchanged since the marathon’s debut in 1982. In addition to the main marathon, participants can also take part in the Run4Rome solidarity relay or the Stracittadina 5K Fun Race, a more relaxed and accessible option open to runners of all ages and abilities. runromethemarathon.com

All Month
One hundred years on, Rome celebrates the founding of its Gallery of Modern Art with the major exhibition GAM 100. A Century of the Municipal Gallery, 1925–2025. Today, the collection comprises more than 3,000 works—including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and graphic art—documenting artistic movements and trends spanning over two centuries, from the 19th to the 21st century. The exhibition brings together more than 100 carefully selected pieces, among them true masterpieces by artists such as Balla, Bocchi (pictured left), Carrà, Sironi, Guttuso, and Mafai. Together, these works form an ideal compass, guiding visitors through a century of art and history while tracing the evolution of the Gallery itself—its locations, key dates, and defining moments. galleriaartemodernaroma.it

Supported by Spazio PM23 of the Valentino Foundation, Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos rein- terprets his iconic creations in Venus, a show that blends contemporary art with Valentino’s signature fashion codes across multiple sites. Iconic masterpieces alter- nate with new, site-specific works by the artist, who for the occasion reimagines Valentino’s signature codes through a con- temporary lens, inviting visitors to rediscov- er Rome through a creative experience. piazzamignanelli23.com

Bernini and the Barberinis

All Month
The National Galleries of Ancient Art present, at Palazzo Barberini, the major exhibition Bernini and the Barberinis, an in-depth exploration of the extraordinary relationship between Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Maffeo Barberini, most influential patron, who was elected pope in 1623 under the name Urban VIII. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to reconsider the birth of the Baroque through the privileged lens of the artistic, political, and personal dialogue between Bernini and Pope Urban VIII—two key figures in the emergence and affirmation of the Baroque language. The show also coincides with the four-hundredth anniversary of the consecration of the Basilica of St Peter’s (1626), one of the crowning moments of Roman Baroque and of Bernini’s artistic career. barberinicorsini.org

Cartier and Myth

Until March 15
Lovers of luxury and fashion should not miss Cartier and Myth at the Capitoline Museums, a dialogue between the maison’s creations and the marble sculptures of the Cardinal Alessandro Albani. The exhibition explores how classical antiquity has continually inspired Cartier’s most iconic designs, highlghting the influence of Greek-Roman motifs and the stylistic evolution of the early 20th century, when a new vision of classical art emerged. A section focuses on jewelry-making techniques rooted in Roman craftsmanship. Conceived as an immersive experience, the exhibition also features audiovisual elements, olfactory installations by Cartier’s perfumer Mathilde Laurent, and displays of hard stones representing ancient deities and myths. museicapitolini.org
